About iBuyFlowers
Founded in 2016 by Wilfred de Wit — a Dutch lily grower’s son with deep roots in the floral industry — iBuyFlowers is a fast-growing online marketplace revolutionizing how flower professionals source their blooms.
We empower U.S. customers to order the freshest, highest-quality flowers directly from over 100 global farms, 24/7 through our platform. By eliminating the middleman, we guarantee farm-fresh quality, competitive pricing, and reliable service.
As a scale-up, iBuyFlowers operates globally with clients across the U.S., a dedicated IT team in Colombia, and an e-commerce team in the Netherlands.
Role Summary
iBuyFlowers is looking for a hands-on Finance Manager who will help take our finance function to the next level. Reporting to the CFO, you will help build the processes, systems and financial insights needed to support a growing international marketplace.
You will own day-to-day finance operations and financial control while actively improving how we work. AI, automation and system integrations are central to this role, with a focus on measurable improvements in efficiency, accuracy and decision-making.
Together with the CFO, you will develop and execute our finance roadmap, building a function that supports significantly more business without a proportional increase in manual work. You will bring ideas, challenge existing processes and turn improvements into practical results.
You must be comfortable performing core finance activities yourself and using that understanding to improve them. Accounting, control and commercial insight will develop together from the start.
What You'll Do
Own finance operations and financial control
- Perform and maintain day-to-day bookkeeping, including supplier invoices, expenses, bank transactions, payroll entries, commissions and bonuses.
- Reconcile sales, customer payments, supplier purchases, freight costs, credits, refunds and payment platforms to the accounting records.
- Maintain accurate accruals, prepayments, intercompany accounts and foreign-currency transactions.
- Own the monthly close and material balance-sheet reconciliations, ensuring accurate revenue and cost recognition.
- Deliver timely profit and loss, balance-sheet and cash-flow reporting with clear documentation and audit trails.
- Resolve accounting discrepancies and strengthen controls around supplier setup, payments and banking information.
- Coordinate year-end accounting and annual reporting for our Dutch BV and US LLC with external advisers.
Build the next stage of Finance through AI and automation
- Develop and execute a prioritised finance improvement roadmap together with the CFO.
- Redesign inefficient processes and identify where AI, automation and integrations can deliver the greatest benefit.
- Implement practical solutions for transaction processing, reconciliations, coding, reporting and exception identification.
- Maintain appropriate validation, approvals, audit trails and human review.
- Improve data flows between accounting, banking, payment, payroll and commercial systems, coordinating technical support where needed.
- Document workflows and measure improvements in processing time, accuracy and capacity.
- Identify resource requirements and agree priorities and additional support with the CFO.
Manage cash, payments and compliance
- Maintain a weekly updated 13-week cash-flow forecast, review actual performance against forecast and flag liquidity risks.
- Support medium- and long-term cash planning.
- Manage payment preparation and timing within agreed approval limits.
- Coordinate Dutch VAT, payroll tax and recurring compliance requirements, and support US and international compliance with external advisers.
- Maintain the compliance calendar and supporting intercompany documentation.
Turn financial data into commercial insight
- Prepare monthly management accounts and KPI reporting, explaining variances against budget and forecast.
- Maintain the rolling forecast and support annual budgeting across sales, margins, operating costs, headcount and cash.
- Establish consistent reporting on revenue, gross margin, contribution, freight costs and credits.
- Develop profitability analysis by customer, product, supplier and sales channel.
- Identify margin leakage from pricing, discounts, vouchers, freight costs, credits and operational issues.
- Support commercial decisions with financial scenarios and challenge assumptions unsupported by data.
- Work with Sales and Operations to improve profitability and cash generation.
The CFO retains responsibility for financial strategy, financing, final budget approval and major financial decisions.
What You'll Bring
You combine strong accounting skills with the ability to improve processes and implement technology that makes Finance more effective.
You must have:
- At least five years of relevant finance experience, including substantial hands-on accounting and financial-control responsibility.
- A relevant HBO or university degree in finance, accounting, business economics or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience independently owning a monthly close, balance-sheet reconciliations and management reporting.
- Experience preparing budgets, forecasts and cash-flow projections.
- Practical experience implementing AI or automation in finance, with measurable improvements in efficiency or accuracy.
- The ability to validate automated outputs and maintain appropriate financial controls.
- Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills and experience with cloud accounting systems.
- Professional fluency in English.
- A proactive, structured approach and the ability to communicate financial issues clearly to non-finance colleagues.
It is an advantage if you also bring:
- Experience with multiple entities, intercompany accounting and foreign currencies.
- Experience in an international marketplace, e-commerce or scale-up environment.
- Familiarity with US entities and QuickBooks Online.
- Dutch language skills.
- A recognised accounting or controlling qualification.
We are looking for someone who takes ownership, brings ideas and follows through on implementation. You should be comfortable moving between transaction-level detail and the wider commercial picture.
Compensation and Benefits
- A competitive salary based on experience and suitability for the role.
- Holiday allowance.
- Hybrid working in the Netherlands.
- Direct collaboration with the CFO and senior management.
- The opportunity to shape our finance roadmap and implement AI, automation and improved financial systems.
- A broad role combining finance operations, control and commercial decision support in a growing international scale-up.
