Flower Care

For Acacia mimosa (like Acacia dealbata), provide full sun, sheltered spot, and well-draining, slightly acidic soil, watering well while establishing and less as mature, with regular feeding and light pruning after flowering (before late summer) to shape and encourage blooms. Protect young plants from frost in colder climates, and for potted plants, ensure excellent drainage and winter indoors.
 
Location & Soil
Sunlight: Full sun is ideal.
Shelter: Plant in a sheltered spot, protected from harsh winds.
Soil: Prefers well-draining, neutral to acidic soil; avoid heavy clay. Mix in compost at planting. 
 
Watering & Feeding
Young Plants: Water regularly to keep soil moist, especially during dry spells, but not waterlogged.
Mature Plants: More drought-tolerant; water during long dry periods.
Potted Plants: Need more frequent watering as containers dry out faster.
Fertilizer: Feed annually with a general or flowering plant fertilizer from spring to autumn. 
 
Pruning & Maintenance
When: Prune after flowering finishes (usually late winter/early spring), but before late summer, as next year's buds form in autumn.
How: Lightly prune to maintain shape, remove dead/damaged branches, and encourage bushier growth.
Potted: Refresh topsoil annually and repot every few years. 
 
Frost & Pests
Frost: Young plants need protection in colder areas (fleece, move indoors/conservatory).
Pests: Generally pest-resistant, but watch for spider mites, scale, or mealybugs. 
 
For Cut Flowers (if using branches)
Place in a clean vase (glass/ceramic), remove any petals in the water, keep away from drafts, fruit, and direct sun.
